Shoul you buy Tesla ? Raises $226.1M at $17 IPO price - NASDAQ with the TSLA ticker symbol Tesla Motors Inc (Public, NASDAQ:TSLA)

said late on Monday that its shares priced at $17, raising $226.1 million for the electric car maker.

The closely watched Palo Alto company's company's shares get their first test on the open market on Tuesday when they trade on NASDAQ with the TSLA symbol.

Tesla sold 13.3 million shares instead of the 11.1 million originally planned and exceeded its previous estimated range of between $14 and $16 a share.

The company plans to use the money to help it bridge its offerings from the flashy two-door $109,000 Roadster that was its first car to a $50,000 Model S sedan that it plans to make at the former New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. plant in Fremont.

The company has yet to make a profit and doesn't expect to until after it begins selling the sedan in volume. It has lost $290.2 million since it was founded in 2003.

The IPO is expected to trigger a $50 million investment by Toyota Motor Corp., which previously ran the NUMMI plant in a 25-year partnership with General Motors Co. GM pulled out of the plant last summer and Toyota made its last Corolla there on April 1.

Tesla also has the backing of the U.S. government, with a $465 million loan.

In addition to the Toyota plan to buy shares, Tesla gave its underwriters the option to buy 1.995 million more shares under certain conditions. Goldman, Sachs & Co. is underwriting the IPO along with Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan and Deutsche Bank Securities.

Our Company

At the core of Tesla Motors is the belief that an electric car need not be a driving sacrifice. We have brought the best of the automotive and technology worlds together to permanently bury the image of an electric car as a step backwards in performance, efficiency, or design. Our key technology is the 100% electric powertrain, which propels us in the present and simultaneously establishes a foundation for our future models. We set out to forever alter perceptions of electric vehicles and to make electric cars a viable alternative. We have produced a car that is at once beautiful and exciting to drive, along with being the most efficient production automobile on the planet.

Freedom of Choice

The very definition of automobile is freedom of motion. The word itself originated as a literal way to define a vehicle that moves under its own power without need for another vehicle – such as a horse or locomotive. Today the definition of automobile often includes association with an internal combustion engine. We’re here to change this definition one car at a time. The world will once again use the automobile to transport us free of convention. Tesla Motors will be part of this liberation. The Tesla Roadster moves not only under its own power, but ultimately free of the existing and increasingly troublesome petroleum-based infrastructure.

Passion for the Future

For 130,000 years humans looked upon the moon with wonder and speculation. On July 20, 1969 we walked on its surface. Sixty years ago a computer was comprised of more than 17,000 vacuum tubes and weighed 30 tons. Today one can place many times this same computing power in a jeans pocket. The end result of technological achievement is often so impressive that we forget the drive of the innovators behind the solution. While we are a technology company, we deliver our automotive innovation with enthusiasm and passion for design. We are engineers and designers. We are drivers and racers. We are executives. We are Tesla Motors.

Milestone Now

The Tesla Roadster is no longer a vision. Our automobile is not merely a claim. The Roadster is our first production car, and will not be our last. With a range of 244 miles on a single charge and a supercar level 3.7 second 0-60 mph acceleration time, the Roadster Sport is proof that the combination of passion and technology can deliver a truly groundbreaking automobile. The Tesla Roadster is just the beginning. We will use what we have created in the Roadster as a foundation for models to come. The 30-ton computer will easily fit in your pocket. The moon will not seem so far away. The car you drive will liberate you from convention. That car will be a Tesla.

Our Mission

Tesla Motors designs and sells high performance, super efficient electric cars. Tesla Motors cars join style, acceleration, and handling with advanced technologies that make them the quickest and the most energy-efficient cars on the planet
Tesla Motors uses proprietary technology, world-class design and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to create a new generation of highway capable electric vehicles. We utilize an innovative distribution model based on Company-owned sales and service centers. This approach allows us to maintain the highest levels of customer experience and benefit from short customer feedback loops to ensure our customer needs are fulfilled. We believe our operational infrastructure provides us with a competitive advantage compared to traditional automobile manufacturers.

We introduced our first vehicle, the Tesla Roadster, in 2008. The Model S, our four-door sedan, has a planned release in 2012.
Tesla Motors will offer up its shares to the public for the first time on Tuesday, testing investors' faith in a company that has proven it can make functional and stunning electric cars but has never had a profitable quarter.

Tesla, which will trade on Nasdaq under the symbol "TSLA," priced its shares late Monday at $17 each, above the target range of $14 to $16. That allowed Tesla to raise more than $226 million in the IPO

PayPal founder Elon Musk's seven-year old auto company lost $55.7 million last year and $260.7 million since its inception. The company has performed so poorly from a financial standpoint that Musk recently said he lost his entire personal fortune on Tesla.

But investors are giddy about the Palo Alto, Calif.-based automaker's initial public offering, prompting Tesla on Monday to increase the number of shares it plans to offer by nearly a fifth to 13.3 million.

Much of the excitement is pegged to Tesla's launch of the Model S, an electric sedan that the company says will sell for a minimum of $50,000 in 2012. That's much more reasonable and practical for most consumers than the vehicle that Tesla currently sells, the $100,000

The electric automaker plans to acquire a plant where it will produce 20,000 new Model S sedans each year starting in 2012. That's a significant increase from the 1,063 Roadsters it has sold -- total. But until 2012, Tesla said it will continue to pile up hefty losses.Apple iPhone 3GS, Black (AT&T)

"Investors that are interested in Tesla know that it's going to continue to burn cash until it gets Model S into commercial production," said Matt Therian, an analyst at IPO research firm Renaissance Capital in Greenwich, Conn. "Tesla investors are really looking out to 2012, with their investment very much tied to whether they think 20,000 is a conservative or an aggressive number

Nissan will sell the electric Leaf and General Motors is ready to bring the hybrid-electric Chevrolet Volt to market next year -- a year ahead of the Model S.
The Nissan Leaf is set to get 100 miles to the charge with just a $25,000 price tag (after tax credits). The Volt will get 40 miles to the charge, but will also have a gas engine, and it will be sold for about $35,000.

The Tesla Model S will have a variety of range options from 160 miles to 300 miles per charge, but at double the price of the Leaf, Tesla will likely remain a niche automaker for some time.

What's more, Tesla has just 12 dealerships to sell and service its vehicles, compared with more than 1,000 Nissan dealers and thousands of Chevy dealerships in the United States.

"I'm struggling to see what Tesla's unique selling point is, to be frank," said MacKenzie.

But Tesla owns an undeniable "cool" factor that its competitors would love to have. The ultra-slick Roadster has a range of about 244 miles per charge, according to the company -- the first production electric vehicle to get more than 200 miles on a single charge. And it does zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds -- better than most similarly priced sports cars. Tesla CEO Elon Musk To Sell Nearly One Million Personal Shares At IPOThe additional shares are being sold by existing shareholders looking to cash out at the IPO, including Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk who is selling an additional 909,212 of his personal shares. Other selling stockholders include VantagePoint Venture Partners (238,748 shares), Bay Area Equity Fund (88,586), Westly Capital Partners (72,625), Compass Venture Partners (22,931), as well as friends and family like Elon’s brother (and OneRiot CEO) Kimball Musk (12,692). Tesla itself won’t make any additional money from the bump in shares, but more shares will be available to the public. (Watch Out )This stock pick should not be a long term risk , get in early and get out when you get your pop early in the game .... do not buy and hold !!!!

Today's TOP DAY TRADEing ALERTS ( AEZS, AFFY, BIDU, BP, AIPC,BP,ADR )

Aeterna Zentaris Inc. (NASDAQ: AEZS) announced positive study data for its growth hormone treatment.  Shares are up almost 7% at $1.26 on over 75,000 shares in the pre-market.
Affymax, Inc. (NASDAQ: AFFY) is down huge after reporting that its anemia drug met primary endpoints. Shares closed at $23.01, but the stock is down almost 65% at $8.07 on over 1.7 million shares.

BP plc (NYSE: BP) is down 3.6% at $30.62 on heavy ADR volume.  The oil giant has said that the costs of cleaning up the oil spill already reached $2 billion.  Weekend reports put the company at raising up to $50 billion through debt and via asset sales.  The worst case scenario now have the leak being up to 100,000 barrels a day this could be even more than 100,000.
EF Johnson Technologies Inc. (EFJI) said it has agreed to a new price of about $40.2 million in its buyout by Francisco Partners, a 43% hike from their previously agreed deal.
EF Johnson said it will now be bought for $1.50 a share, a 46% premium to Friday's close of $1.03. Amendments to the deal also increased termination fees and allowable transaction expenses.
No reason for the boost was given in a statement announcing the move, and spokesmen for the company's were not immediately available for comment.
The maker of portable radios and other communications gear for the military and public-safety workers first announced the deal last month as it swung to the black for the first quarter on strong sales growth. It had seen sales trend downward in recent years and suffered liquidity concerns in recent months.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) logged its second 2% weekly gain in a row last week, while the S&P 500 Index (SPX) closed four consecutive sessions above its 200-day moving average. It would seem that the bulls are back in control, and that Wall Street has left the lows of its recent bull market correction in the rear-view mirror. What's more, with news out of China driving U.S. stock futures sharply higher in pre-market trading, it looks like traders have received a much needed spark to extend the recent run higher. Specifically, futures on the DJIA and the SPX are trading roughly 114 points and 16.75 points above fair value, respectively. Finally, as Todd Salamone noted in this week's Monday Morning Outlook, sentiment on the "customer-only, equity option buyers on the International Securities Exchange and Chicago Board Options Exchange is at a pessimistic extreme for 2010." Historically, our data has shown that "the market is more apt to surge higher when a pessimistic extreme is identified," according to Todd.
In merger and acquisition news, Ralcorp Holdings Inc. (RAH) said it is buying American Italian Pasta Co. (AIPC) for $53 per share in cash, making the deal worth approximately $1.2 billion. AIPC closed at $41.73 per share on Friday. Ralcorp Holdings Inc. also agreed to buy two private food firms, North American Baking Ltd. and J.T. Bakeries Inc.
Finally, Luby's Inc. (LUB) rallied sharply late on Friday, after the company announced that it was buying bankrupt Fuddruckers for $61 million in cash. Luby's said it will receive "substantially all of the assets of Fuddruckers, Inc., Magic Brands, LLC and certain of their affiliates."
American Italian Pasta Co. (NASDAQ: AIPC) is soaring on active trading of more than 2 million shares after Ralcorp Holdings Inc. (NYSE: RAH) agreed to buy the company out for $1.2 billion.  Shares are up 26% at $52.62, well above the $44.00 high of the last 52-weeks.

China Currency at highest Level in Nearly Two Years........

Chinese currency strengthened Monday to the highest level in nearly two years in the biggest one-day move since 2005, an early indication that China would allow a gradual rise in the renminbi that it had hinted at over the weekend. Officials from Japan to Thailand to Germany on Monday hailed China’s pledge Saturday to “proceed further with reform” of the exchange rate and “enhance” flexibility as a potential boon to their exports and national economies. Many economists believe the stronger renminbi will increase the purchasing power of ordinary Chinese citizens and companies, helping promote global trade in one of the world’s largest markets.
But China on Monday continued to play down the significance of the renminbi’s value in helping to re-balance the global economy. A commentary in the state-run China Daily placed the onus on global leaders to overhaul the global financial system.
If leaders don’t to make progress at a forthcoming Group of 20 summit to overhaul the financial system, “the international community will soon find to its disappointment that its leaders look only for red herrings, rather than real solutions, at a time when true leadership is badly needed,” the commentary said.
By the close of business in Asia, the renminbi had advanced 0.42 percent to 6.7976 per dollar. Though seemingly small, the one-day gain is the largest in five years and marks an extraordinary change in China’s currency stance. China has hardly allowed the currency to budge over the past two years as it tried to promote its exports during the global economic and financial crisis.
At the same time, the announcement triggered an across-the-board rally in Asian and European equity markets as investors cheered the political and economic implications of the move.
The key market indexes in mainland China and Hong Kong rallied 2.9 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively, and the Nikkei 225 index in Japan closed 2.4 percent higher. European markets also were higher by midday.
Mainland Chinese airlines were among the biggest gainers in Shanghai: China Southern Airlines soared 8.1 percent, China Eastern jumped 5.6 percent, and Air China rallied 6.4 percent.
The reason: Investors believe that a rise in the Chinese currency will ultimately bolster passenger and cargo business while reducing airlines’ fuel costs. Because oil is denominated in dollars on the world markets, a rise in the renminbi would make oil cheaper for Chinese purchasers.
Oil also rose on expectations that a stronger renminbi will bolster demand from China. U.S. crude for July delivery rose $1.69 to as high as $78.87, its highest level since early May.
China’s announcement stopped well short of an all-out revaluation for the Chinese currency and provided little detail as to what the added flexibility for the renminbi would entail, or when it would be introduced.
And in a sign that underscored that the authorities in Beijing are in no hurry to initiate marked reform — a step that might fuel criticism at home that they were succumbing to pressure from abroad — the central bank on Monday left its reference rate for the currency unchanged from Friday’s level, at 6.8275 per dollar.
Officially the renminbi is allowed to trade as much as 0.5 percent below or above Beijing’s daily reference rate to the dollar, but in reality the divergence from that level has been much smaller over the past two years.
Monday’s gain showed a striking hands-off attitude on the part of Chinese authorities who manage the exchange rate. But analysts will closely watch Beijing’s announcement Tuesday morning of its daily reference rate to get a better sense of how swiftly China will allow financial markets to determine the renminbi’s level.
The weekend’s statement and Monday’s gains in the currency were widely interpreted as a precursor to a gradual and modest appreciation of the renminbi, which has been informally pegged against the dollar since the middle of 2008.
That policy has caused political tensions with the United States: Many economists and U.S. policy makers believe that the renminbi exchange rate is artificially low, giving Chinese exporters an unfair competitive advantage over U.S. manufacturers.
Saturday’s announcement, coming just days before the G-20 meeting of world leaders in Canada later this week, appeared aimed at defusing the currency debate and shifting the focus of the meeting toward other issues, like Europe’s debt troubles, analysts said.
The renminbi is a political tool. Clearly the timing of the move was politically determined. It is not an economic tool yet. This will take years, not days or weeks,” Bill Belchere, a global economist at Mirae Asset in Hong Kong, wrote in a note Monday. He added: “This is a move in the right direction: politically and economically. Market disappointment may grow if China’s actions remain slow and don’t add up to real shift in policy. But the verdict is out.”
Economists at Bank of America Merrill Lynch echoed this, writing in a note that although they did not expect a significant appreciation against the dollar, Saturday’s announcement was a “key step for Chinese macro policy.”
Foreign exchange flexibility would help China to control asset price bubbles and reduce the threat of protectionism, economists believe.
The stock markets took the news unequivocally well, shrugging off both the lack of clarity on the timing and likely small size of any actual appreciation.
Most analysts expect Beijing to allow an increase of between only 2 percent and 5 percent by the end of the year. A Reuters survey Monday showed that economists broadly expected the renminbi to end 2010 at 6.67 per dollar.

In addition to China and Japan, major indexes elsewhere also gained, with rises of 1.8 percent in Singapore, 1.9 percent in Taiwan and 1.6 percent in South Korea. The Sensex in India was 1.7 percent higher in late trading, and the benchmark index in Australia closed up 1.3 percent.
Consumer goods companies and overseas companies that export their goods and services to China are seen as the biggest winners of a stronger renminbi.
The Swiss watch maker Swatch rose 5.6 percent by early afternoon in Europe, and the French luxury groups LVMH and Richemont climbed 3.2 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively.
The exact impact on companies will depend to a large extent on how much they export to and from China and whether they have manufacturing operations there.
Longer term, analysts said, a renminbi appreciation could have far-reaching macroeconomic implications.
An appreciation of the renminbi against the yen is “clearly good for Japanese companies that stand to benefit from growth in the Chinese market,” analysts at Nomura wrote in a note on Monday, though they added that it also would have some negative implications for Japanese companies that have manufacturing operations in China and that export to other regions.
The Japanese finance minister, Yoshihiko Noda, said he expected the move “to be a plus for the China and Asia economies as well as the world economy. Basically I welcome it,” Reuters reported.
And Bandid Nijathaworn, the deputy governor of the Thai central bank, said gains in the renminbi, also commonly known as the yuan, would buoy exports to China and help reduce trade imbalances in the long term. “China is a Thai export market. If the yuan strengthens and our exports can still compete with others, we should benefit,” he said, according to Reuters.ny.times.com

Hotel Industry is heating Up !!! ( HOT,MAR,H,CHH,BXG,GET,IHG,RLH )

Things are beginning to look up for the hotel industry, with luxury players leading the budding recovery. That could mean travelers will have a little harder time locating once-in-a-lifetime discounts. Hotel rates and bussiness is heating up ! Buy Now !!

Four nights for the price of three at Mexico's One & Only Palmilla

Smith Travel Research said Tuesday that increases in demand prompted it to revise upward its outlook for this year and next. The lodging research and consulting firm now expects U.S. occupancy levels in 2010 will rise 3.6% from last year, to 56.7%. In April, the firm had predicted occupancy levels for this year of 55.8%. Revenue per available room, a gauge of hotel revenue, is expected to rise 3% this year to $55.13. The firm's previous forecast was for $53.22.

By the end of 2011, Smith Travel sees further gains in occupancy levels to 58.1%, and in revenue per available room to $58.70.

High-end and luxury hotels typically are the first to recover after an economic slump. "They got hit a whole lot more on the downside of things, so now what's happening is you are seeing those guys snap back a lot faster," says Bobby Bowers, senior vice president at Smith Travel.

While hotel rates have stopped their freefall, they aren't predicted to skyrocket this year. Smith Travel expects U.S. average daily rates to remain virtually flat in 2010, at $97.26, a decline of just 0.6% from last year. Still, that represents a brighter picture than Smith Travel presented in April, when it predicted hotel rates would average $95.45 this year. Next year, Smith Travel expects average rates to reach $101.05.

Marriott International Inc. said Tuesday that in May it raised room rates at its North American properties for the first time since 2008. Marriott, based in Bethesda, Md., manages or franchises most of its hotels. Rates rose 1% during a period that included most of May compared with the same period last year, said President and Chief Operating Officer Arne Sorenson speaking at a conference in New York.

Still, the hotel industry's health is a far cry from prerecession levels. "That percentage change that looks so good, you've got to take it with the grain of salt, because it's coming off of [comparative statistics] that were so bad," cautioned Mr. Bowers.

Gulf Coast Cancellations

Hotels in the Gulf of Mexico region are facing more cancellations as the effects of the BP oil spill spread. A survey by Knowland Group, a lodging-data-collection company, showed that 60% of hotels are experiencing group-booking cancellations, up 18 percentage points from a similar survey taken two weeks earlier. The company surveyed 50 hotels on June 2 and 3 in the Gulf Coast area.

The outlook also isn't bright: 28% of hotels surveyed said they are having "significant difficulty" booking future events, double the number from the previous survey. And 39% of hotels said guests cited the oil spill as a reason for canceling their Memorial Day weekend reservations.

Briefs

Air France on Sept. 1 will start flying between Paris and Tokyo using its fleet of A380s, the largest passenger airplane in the world. Flights initially will depart three times a week, and increase to daily service starting Oct. 5.

One & Only, a chain of luxury resorts in destinations from Mexico to South Africa, is offering a series of summer deals. The chain, owned by Kerzner International, said the deals are bookable through June 20, for various travel dates this summer. At the One & Only Palmilla in Mexico, for instance, guests who stay four nights receive one of the nights free, a $50 credit per person toward certain spa offerings, two rounds of golf for the price of one, $100 resort credit and $100 food and beverage credit. The deal is good through Oct. 31. WSJ.com

3.

MannKind Corporation

(Public, NASDAQ:MNKD)  5.47 a share / target price 8.50
MannKind Corporation (MannKind) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of therapeutic products for diseases, such as diabetes and cancer. The Company’s lead product candidate, AFREZZA (insulin human) Inhalation Powder, is insulin that has completed Phase III clinical trials. AFREZZA utilizes its Technosphere formulation technology, which is based on a class of organic molecules that are designed to self-assemble into small particles onto which drug molecules can be loaded. With AFREZZA, the Company loads recombinant human insulin onto the Technosphere particles, however, this technology is not limited to insulin delivery. In March 2009, the Company submitted a new drug application (NDA) to the United Stated Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for AFREZZA. In June 2009, it acquired a quantity of bulk insulin from Pfizer Manufacturing Frankfurt GmbH, a subsidiary of Pfizer Inc. released its most recent earnings statement about a month ago on Friday, April 30th. MannKind Corp. missed expectations with a loss of 40 cents per share---4 cents above the analyst consensus of 44 cents per share.

Now that investors have had plenty of time to assimilate the information and update their positions, it's time to take another look at MannKind Corp.MNKD vs. Its Industry Peers, Simply put, they will get FDA approval following their June meeting and sign a lucrative deal with a big pharma co.

Looking at MNKDcompared to a few of its industry peers, you can see that it is underperforming most of them. This may seem like a bad time for most buyers of MNKD , this is a great time to buy on it low and , make some $$ in the long term play ... FDA approval of Mankind's new insulin dosing technology will be paradigm shift for diabetes patients. The Dreamboat dosing system requires no needles, is very easy to use, uniquely fast acting (effective blood levels in 14 minutes), safe and effective. Multi-bagger stock potential within 1 yr. There is a large market for this product, and the drug will most likely be approved considering previous insulin inhalants were approved. I feel sure there will be a nice bump in price when the FDA approves.

Why and when you should buy BP oil company . (Public, NYSE:BP)

BP plc (ADR)

(Public, NYSE:BP) 36.92 a share / Target Buy price 24.00 a share .

BP p.l.c. (BP) is an international oil and gas company. The Company operates in more than 80 countries, providing its customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, retail services and petrochemicals products. The Company operates two segments: Exploration and Production, and Refining and Marketing. Exploration and Production’s activities cover three key areas. Upstream activities include oil and natural gas exploration, field development and production. Midstream activities include pipeline, transportation and processing activities related to its upstream activities. Marketing and trading activities include the marketing and trading of natural gas, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), together with power and natural gas liquids (NGLs). Refining and Marketing’s activities include the supply and trading, refining, manufacturing, marketing and transportation of crude oil, petroleum and petrochemicals products and related services. has estimated the cost to clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is $930 million so far, as the London-based oil giant continues to evaluate its “top kill” operation. BP has a credit limit to 50 billion ,Why We Hate the Oil Companies: Straight Talk from an Energy Insider So no worries of going broke , but how about a buy out from a large USA Oil company ?? Long term, I think an entry here with buying on the dips will yield a very nice return over the next 5 years. Eventually the oil spill will be cleaned up. It's a mess, will annoy environmentalists a lot more than it will affect the profits of this company in the long run. If you  bought XOM for $12 after the Valdez incident. You Made alot of $$ So I'll buy BP for $30 & my other half of my money if it dips below $ 24 a share . right now and see where it comes out in 10 - 15  years.Exxon did not die from the Valdeez spill and went on to be bigger and better. If you look at the past with Exxon, and realise even if it costs 10 to 20 billion to fix the mess they have created, the long term outlook will be healthy despite all the bumps and bruises it will suffer financially and imagewise. Beaten down, long term will recover from massive oil leak issue ...Why We Hate the Oil Companies: Straight Talk from an Energy Insider Buy on the dips going down ....
