PENNY STOCK IS A BUY Ocean Power Technologies / PETSMART IS STILL A BUY ?

Ocean Power Technologies Completes First-Ever Grid Connection of a Wave Energy Device in the US

PENNINGTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPTT and London Stock Exchange AIM: OPT) (“OPT” or the “Company”) announces that it has completed the first-ever grid connection of a wave energy device in the United States at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii (“MCBH”), in conjunction with the US Navy. This connection demonstrates the ability of OPT’s PowerBuoy® systems to produce utility-grade, renewable energy that can be transmitted to the grid in a manner fully compliant with national and international standards.

The PB40 PowerBuoy is part of OPT’s ongoing program with the US Navy to develop and test the Company’s PowerBuoy wave energy technology. The project began as a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program at the Office of Naval Research (ONR). Key program goals include demonstrating system reliability and survivability, and the successful interconnection with the grid serving MCBH.

The PowerBuoy was deployed on December 14, 2009 approximately three-quarters of a mile off the coast of Oahu in water depth of 100 feet. To date, the PowerBuoy has operated and produced power from over 3 million power take-off cycles and 4,400 hours of operation. The PowerBuoy grid interface was certified in 2007 by an independent laboratory, Intertek Testing Services, as compliant with national and international standards, including the safety standards UL1741 and IEEE1547, and also bears the ETL Listed mark.

The system has numerous on-board sensors that monitor a wide variety of system performance variables, external conditions and lifecycle parameters. Data collected by on-board computers is transmitted to a shore-based facility via a fiber optic cable embedded in the submarine power transmission cable and then transmitted via the Internet to OPT’s facility in Pennington, New Jersey. The Company’s engineers have collated much of this data and compared it to OPT’s proprietary models which analyze the performance given actual in-coming wave conditions. This information has provided a strong correlation between the ‘actual’ and ‘expected’ system performance, which serves to confirm OPT’s models for its higher output PowerBuoys, including the PB150.

The wave power project at MCBH underwent an extensive environmental assessment by an independent environmental firm in accordance with the National Environment Policy Act (NEPA) that resulted in a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). The FONSI is the highest rating assigned. The project has utilized local Hawaiian subcontractors, including Sea Engineering Inc. for the installation, test and servicing of the systems.

Charles F. Dunleavy, Chief Executive Officer of OPT, said, “OPT has been ocean-testing its technology in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans for several years. Our engineers and marine operations personnel have worked hard to bring about this success. Grid connection is another significant milestone in demonstrating the potential for commercial status of our PowerBuoy technology. We thank the Navy and the Naval Facilities group for supporting this project as we move nearer to achieving their goals for the program. We are pleased to be a part of the renewable energy initiatives undertaken by the commander of Marine Corps Base Hawaii.”

OPT has a strong track record in the advancement of wave energy. The Company participates in a $150 billion annual power generation equipment market. OPT’s proprietary PowerBuoy® system is based on modular, ocean-going buoys that capture and convert predictable wave energy into clean electricity. has weathered the retail storm quite well. The company - a retailer specializing in all things pets - recently beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 14%, prompting analysts to raise estimates going forward. It was PetSmart's 10th consecutive earnings surprise.

People Still Spending on Their Pets

On August 18, PetSmart reported a 32% increase in earnings per share from the second quarter of 2009 to $0.41. Same-store sales improved 4.6% from the same period. Apparently people are more inclined to cut back on spending for themselves rather than their pets. Overall net sales increased 6.2%.

Service sales, which represent about 12% of total revenue, increased 7.2% year-over-year. These services include pet training, "styling salons" for grooming, and PetHotels for boarding. PetSmart also offers veterinary services through many of its stores.

The company was able to increase sales without deep discounting, as evidenced by its improved gross margin - up from 28.2% to 28.5%. Its operating margin also improved - from 4.5% of revenue to 6.6%.

Positive Outlook

Management expects continued growth going forward, with a low to mid single-digit increase in same-store sales. For the full year, the company expects EPS between $1.91 and $1.99, up from its previous guidance of $1.82 to $1.92. The company expects earnings for the third quarter between $0.35 to $0.39 per share.

Analysts have been revising their estimates higher since the latest earnings surprise. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2010 is $1.97 - within management's range - and a 24% increase from 2009 EPS. Analysts expect the company to earn $2.25 per share in 2011, a 14% increase from 2010 EPS.

Fundamentally Sound

PetSmart has repurchased 3.4 million shares year-to-date for a total of $107.1 million. The company did not buy back any stock in the second quarter however.

PetSmart recently raised its dividend 25%. It has a dividend yield of 1.5%.

The stock trades at 3.4x book value, a premium to industry average of 1.5x. This premium is justified given PetSmart's superior profitability. The company's return on equity of 18.6% trumps the industry average of 8.4%. Its net profit margin of 4.0% is well-above it peers at 1.2%.

The stock also trades at 17.3x forward earnings. Its PEG ratio is a very reasonable 1.3.

PetSmart operates 1,164 stores throughout North America. The company expects to open 21 to 24 new stores in the last half of 2010. It is a#2 Rank (Buy) stock

Barron'S AND MAD MONEY FUND LIKE DGI

Barron's Likes the DigitalGlobe Picture, Sees Potential for 30% Rise in Shares (DGI)

In this past weekend edition of Barron's, reporter Neil Martin suggested that shares of satellite photo company DigitalGlobe (NYSE:DGI) could rise about 30% next year as it adds revenue from government and business contracts.

For example, the Greek government hired the company to find tax cheats by taking overhead pictures of homes looking for swimming pools - an often unreported, yet taxable, item.

Citing several Wall Street analysts, the article notes that the company's valuation on a price to EBITDA basis (7.7x) is below the industry average of 10x.

SmarTrend alerted subscribers to but DGI on July 28th at $27.62 per share. Since the alert, the stock has risen 15.6%. SmarTrend is monitoring these developments and will alert subscribers to any change in trend.

New Upcoming IPO This Week ! Should U Buy ?

CoreSite Realty (COR), a data center REIT backed by private equity firm Carlyle Group, raised $270 million on Wednesday by offering 16.9 million shares at its $16 midpoint. CoreSite Realty, which has over 600 customers and a portfolio of 11 data centers, saw its stock rise modestly by the end of the week. REIT activity has picked up in the IPO market recently with CoreSite being only one of three to disclose terms so far this month, along with Campus Crest Communities (CCG) and US Federal Properties Trust (USFP).

SciQuest (SQI), which provides on-demand procurement and supplier management software, raised $57 million on Thursday by offering 6 million shares at $9.50, at the low end of its proposed range of $9.50-$11.50. The stock climbed more than 30% in early trading on Friday. SciQuest had previously gone public in 1999 before venture firm Trinity Ventures took it private in 2004. The company's strong track record coupled with technical tailwinds in the software as a service space were likely to have contributed to its successful second debut.

There are nine deals scheduled on the IPO calendar for next week, which cover a wide range of industries and include property and casualty insurer Liberty Mutual (LMAC) and defense contractor KEYW Holding (KEYW). Three of the nine are China-based IPOs (fast food restaurant chain Country Style Cooking (CCSC), Internet content provider ChinaCache International (CCIH) and wind turbine manufacturer China Ming Yang Wind Power (MY)), which have been prevalent in recent months. Another notable trend is the growing interest in alternative energy and energy conservation, with biofuels company Amyris Biotechnologies (AMRS) and traditional and smart meter provider Elster Group (ELT) also expected to list next week. The growing IPO pipeline for the US market stands at over $57 billion and suggests high levels of IPO activity will be sustained in the coming months.

52% $19.11

10 dividend stocks most likely to outperform

Here's a closer look at these winners:

10. Titanium Metals (TIE)

2010 gain: 52%

Shares of this Dallas supplier of titanium parts have jumped 88% over the past 12 months. Titanium Metals is benefiting from renewed demand from aerospace customers. The company doubled its second-quarter profit to $19 million, or 11 cents a share, as revenue grew 3% to $212 million. Demand last year shrank as companies cut production of planes and other products. The situation has since reversed, and Titanium Metals CEO Bobby O'Brien said earlier this year that he expects sales to increase in 2010. D.A. Davidson rates the stock "buy" and expects the shares to climb 20%, to $23, over 12 months.

9. Huntington Bancshares (HBAN)

2010 gain: 54.25%

In the first quarter, this Columbus, Ohio, bank reported its first profit in more than a year, exceeding analysts' estimates with a profit of $40 million. In the second quarter, Huntington beat expectations again with a profit of $48.8 million, or 3 cents a share, after a year-earlier loss. Analysts had predicted a loss. Earlier this month, Sanford Bernstein and Raymond James (RJF) boosted their ratings on the stock. Though almost half of the analysts who follow the stock rate it "hold," Stifel Nicolaus rates the company "buy" and says shares could rise 60%, to $9, during the next year.

8. Priceline.com (PCLN)

2010 gain: 54.3%

This Norfolk, Conn., travel-booking website is best known for its online auction process, but it's benefiting most from the second-quarter acquisition of TravelJigsaw, an international car service. The deal helped the company, fronted by William Shatner, boost bookings by $43.9 million in the second quarter. Priceline is also gaining from international bookings, which grew three times faster than domestic bookings. The company forecasts this trend to continue this quarter, with revenue increasing as much as 34% and profit as much as 48%. Three-quarters of analysts who track the stock rate it "buy." Citigroup (C) said the shares could advance 25% to $425 during the next 12 months.

7. Family Dollar (FDO)

2010 gain: 55%

A weak economy has created opportunities for Family Dollar, the discount variety-store chain. The Matthews, N.C., company has increased earnings more than 10% for the past nine quarters. Family Dollar sales at stores open at least a year rose 6.1% during the quarter that ended in August, when the company opened 75 new stores. CEO Howard Levine said his store chain has spent the past year improving its merchandise and expanding its hours. Half of analysts who track the company rate it "buy," including Barclays (BCS), which says the stock could rise 20%, to $52, over 12 months.

Get Jim Cramer's top portfolio picks

6. Zions Bancorp (ZION)

2010 gain: 57%

Salt Lake City's Zions Bancorp is the best-performing stock in the 80-member S&P Financials Index this year. The company has been struggling to return to profitability, reporting an 84-cent loss in the second quarter, compared with the 52-cent loss analysts had expected. Zions, which has more than 500 banking offices in 10 states, has taken steps to shore up its balance sheet. Two-thirds of the 27 analysts who follow the company rate its shares "hold," but Cantor Fitzgerald rates the stock "buy" and says it could rise 59%, to $32, during the next 12 months.

5. Salesforce.com (CRM)

2010 gain: 59%

Like many companies hatched in the late 1990s, Salesforce.com was started in a San Francisco apartment. The company has been using social-networking tools to draw new subscribers to its online client-management service, adding 30% more customers in the quarter ended in July. The company has increased annual sales by 34%, on average, during the past five years. Salesforce expects to boost revenue by as much as 23% in its current fiscal year. More than half of analysts who follow the stock rate it "buy." Kaufman Bros. has set a 12-month price target of $140, suggesting the shares could rise 19%.

4. Lexmark (LXK)

2010 gain: 62%

Shares of printer maker Lexmark have gained 3.4% annually, on average, during the past three years, outperforming those of rivals Xerox (XRX), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), Eastman Kodak (EK) and Canon (CAJ).

The Lexington, Ky., company, led by CEO Paul Curlander, has been expanding its profit margins by cutting expenses and boosting demand in key product areas, such as printer supplies. Analysts are divided over the stock, with 43% considering it "buy" and 36% rating it "hold." Citigroup (C) says the shares could climb as high as 31% to $55 during the next year.

3. Citrix Systems (CTXS)

2010 gain: 64%

Citrix Systems' software, which allows customers to use fewer servers and operate software remotely, has been gaining popularity as more companies rely on offsite workers. The Santa Clara, Calif., company increased revenue 17% in the second quarter from a year earlier, helped by rapidly growing demand in Asia. The stock has jumped 89% in the past year, and many analysts think the shares might have peaked. While one-third of analysts rate the stock "buy," two-thirds rate it "hold." Still, Lazard has set a 12-month price target of $80, which would be a 17% gain.

2. Cummins (CMI)

Obama's day: Talking jobs on CNBC Obama will discuss the state of the economy and answer questions during a live town hall event at 12 p.m. on CNBC "Investing in America"

When President Barack Obama takes the stage at Monday’s Town Hall event, many on Wall Street will be watching to see if he keeps up his attacks on banking executives as "fat cats" or adopts a more conciliatory tone.

President Barack Obama

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For most of this year, Wall Street has felt it has been under siege by the White House. The Obama administration has positioned itself against Wall Street on the level of policy and with heated rhetoric.

But in recent weeks, the White House has been reaching out to Wall Street behind the scenes. White House officials have placed calls to top executives at major financial firms with the message that the administration does not view Wall Street as an antagonist, according to several sources familiar with the conversations.

The big question Wall Street is wondering is which Obama will appear at the Town Hall: the conciliator or the fat-cat-bashing populist?

Wall Street and the administration have been at odds over bonuses and the Volcker Rule. But it is the fiery rhetoric that seems to have most alienated Wall Street from the president.

"The president tried to deflect attention from his inability to get the economy rolling by bashing Wall Street. That’s just cheap politics," one Wall Street executive recently told CNBC.

No one expects a major pro-Wall Street change of policy from Obama on Monday. But they would like to hear less of an “us-versus-them” tone from the president.

"While I'd like to get the sense that Obama is calling a truce in his war against Wall Street, I'm not exactly sure I can keep that particular hope alive," said David Katona of Abundance Partners, a New York based hedge fund. It's day of policy and politics for President Obama, who noon hosts a town hall meeting on jobs that is sponsored by the CNBC financial news network. As Obama speaks, some unemployed Americans in their 50s wonder if they will ever work again.

Late this afternoon, Obama flies to Philadelphia to raise money for the Democratic Party and Senate candidate Joe Sestak.

In other news:

Fundraising for the mid-term elections as a whole are breaking all sorts of records, writes Fredreka Schouten of USA TODAY. Meanwhile, our Kathy Kiely reports on the internal battle between Tea Party backers and establishment Republicans.

Meanwhile, some Obama aides are reportedly considering ads seeking to tie all Republicans to alleged Tea Party extremism. This while some House Democrats appear to be distancing themselves from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

One of the big Republican stars is Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio, and Susan Page of USA TODAY reports on his race.

Losses are mounting in the Gulf Coast region thanks to the months-long oil spill, USA TODAY's Rick Jervis reports.

There are new proposals to crack down on Medicare and Medicaid fraud, reports Alison Young of USA TODAY.

Later this week Obama heads to New York for meetings at the United Nations, which is struggling to prove its relevance.

We'll be here all day at The Oval, reporting on Obama's jobs town hall and other activities. Please check us out and have a good day.

Obama will discuss the state of the economy and answer questions during a live town hall event at 12 p.m. on CNBC "Investing in America"

Ruby Tuesday Stock is a buy & best stocks to buy now ?

RT continued its earnings surprise winning streak in July when it beat for the fourth consecutive quarter despite a volatile economic environment for the casual dining chains as consumers stay home to eat.

The company also continues with its expansion plans as it announced on Aug 17 that it was expanding in Hawaii by adding 3 new restaurants over the next 3 years, with the first to open in June 2011.

It also intends to open 8 to 13 restaurants in fiscal 2011, which it just entered, and 10 of those will be international locations.

Ruby Tuesday Surprised by 17.9% in the Fiscal Fourth Quarter

On July 22, Ruby Tuesday reported its fiscal fourth quarter 2010 results and beat the consensus by 5 cents.

[*Open 24 Hours at Austads*]

Earnings per share were 33 cents compared to the consensus of 28 cents. The company saw a loss of 35 cents in the same quarter last year.

Same store sales rose 0.3% at company-owned restaurants and fell 0.5% for domestic franchised restaurants.

The same store sales increase was the best for the company in the last 16 quarters which indicates its strategy for coping with the global recession appears to be working. Ruby Tuesday also reduced its debt by $33 million in the quarter.

$100 Bonus

Outlook Still Uncertain

The casual dining chains have been in a tough position during the last several years. But they have cut costs, re-tooled menus and price points, focused on updating restaurant locations and it seems to be paying off heading into this recovery.

Ruby Tuesday said it has momentum going into fiscal 2011, but that the economy was still "vulnerable."

The company is conservatively projecting same store restaurant sales at flat to up 2% for fiscal 2011.

Double Digit Earnings Growth Projected for Fiscal 2011

The analysts are projecting further growth in 2011. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal 2011 has been holding at 85 cents per share but this is earnings growth of 16.4% over fiscal 2011.

Analysts also see Ruby Tuesday growing earnings another 17.6% in fiscal 2012.

The company will report fiscal first quarter 2011 results on Oct 7.

Ruby Tuesday Remains a Value Stock

I last reviewed Ruby Tuesday in May 2009 and at that time the company was fighting through "the most difficult operating environment" in the founder's entire career. What a difference a year makes.

It was trading at 11x forward estimates in 2009. Today, it is slightly more expensive, at 12.9x forward estimates, but that is under its peers who are at 15.9x.

The company also has an excellent price-to-book ratio of 1.3, again, under its peers at 2.9 and well-within the value parameters as its under 3.0.

Ruby Tuesday is a Zacks #2 Rank (buy) stock

Banks move stock higher today ............................

new global banking rules and robust Chinese economic data helped shore up sentiment in the markets Monday, with stocks up strongly and the euro climbing a cent against the dollar.

The FTSE 100 in London was up 59 points, or 1.1 percent, while the DAX in Frankfurt rose 56.31 points, or 0.9 percent. The CAC 40 in Paris was 40.86 points, or 1.1 percent, higher.

Futures indexes indicated a higher opening on Wall Street. American stocks have rallied since the first of the month, pausing only once because of worries about European banks. Otherwise, traders have been encouraged by economic reports that have topped modest expectations. Recent data has relieved worries that the economy might slip back into recession, though it still indicates growth will be slow.

The Dow is up 4.5 percent in September, typically one of the weakest months.

Treasury prices fell as investors moved back into stocks. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.83 percent from 2.79 percent late Friday.

Europe’s positive start to the week has come after central bankers agreed on rules to require banks to hold more capital as a buffer against future difficulties and Chinese figures showing that growth in industrial production accelerated to 13.9 percent year-on-year in August from July’s 13.4 percent increase.

The main relief in the markets over the conclusion of the so-called Basel III negotiations Sunday is that the proposals for new bank rules appear to be less onerous than many in the markets had been predicting.

“There was some slight trepidation on Friday ahead of the weekend’s meeting regarding capital requirements for banks, but while new levels are more than double, the timetable for putting them in seems fairly relaxed,” said Ben Critchley, a sales trader at IG Index.

The recommendations, which must be ratified by the Group of 20 leading industrial and developing nations in November, will require banks to hold as much as 7 percent of their capital in reserve. One reason the world suffered its deepest recession since World War II was that the banks were badly undercapitalized when the financial crisis broke around three years ago.

Though the new ratio is higher than the 2 percent banks held in the run-up to the financial crisis, they will have up until 2018 to put the rules fully in place.

The president of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet, said the deal was ”a fundamental strengthening of global capital standards,” while American regulators described it as a ”significant step forward” in preventing a repeat of the banking crisis that led to many banks collapsing or needing emergency funds from governments to shore up their capital position.

Analysts said the agreement had helped underpin investor confidence at the start of a busy economic news week, particularly in the United States.

There will be some interest in Tuesday’s release of retail sales in the United States for August as investors get a chance to see if the growing talk of a double-dip recession during the month reined in consumption.

Retail sales are particularly important because consumer spending accounts for around 70 percent of the American economy.

The improvement in sentiment was visible in the currency markets, where the euro was 0.8 percent higher on the day, at $1.2810 .

Earlier in Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 stock average rose 82.65 points, or 0.9 percent, to 9,321.82 as the dollar remained above 84 yen. Last week, the dollar fell to a fresh 15-year low of 83.35 yen, which further fueled concerns among Japan’s high-value exporters that they would be priced out of the international marketplace.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index added 2 percent and China’s Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.9 percent.
